How Often Should You Change Your Bedding?

Did you know that a survey conducted by Mattress Advisor found most people only changed their sheets every 24.4 days? That's roughly three weeks and three days of sleeping in the same sheets.

Here's why you shouldn't do the same:

1. Human sheds 500 million dead skin cells even while asleep
This natural process results in dead skin cells accumulating on your bedding. You are likely to shed even more dead skins cells if you tend to toss and turn in your sleep.

2. Unwashed bedsheets create an ideal environment for bugs & bacteria
Dust mites and bed bugs feast on dead skin cells. Their droppings have also been known to cause skin conditions such as acne or eczema to worsen and flare up. Lab tests have also found 17,000 times more colonies of bacteria from bedding unwashed for a week than samples taken from a toilet seat.

Now here is what you should do:

1. Change bedsheet once a week
Even if you are constantly juggling social life, studies, and maybe even part-time jobs. Remember to change your pillowcases and blankets too.

2. Use hot water during washing
The hotter the water, the more likely you are to kill most of the germs and remove dust mites. However, read washing instructions carefully as certain materials cannot stand high temperatures.

3. Keep extra bedsheets
Having 2 or 3 extra sets of bedsheets, pillowcases, and blankets means that you have spares when you wash your bedsheet every week.

4. Choose the right bedding
Look for hypoallergenic, anti-dust mite material, and colour options to brighten your room and mood.
